Natural fur is for us an expression of traditional clothing and is nonpareil in its ability to insulate against cold and moisture.
To preserve the appearance and value of your fur please follow the care guidelines below.
Always put your fur garments into cold storage when you have finished wearing them for the season or are not using them. Authorised fur care specialists store your furs professionally so that you can enjoy them for many years.
These specialists are equipped with temperature, humidity, and light-controlled storage facilities to protect your fur, keeping it from drying out and prematurely ageing.
Have your fur cleaned annually by an authorised fur care specialist, never by a dry cleaner. Your fur may not look dirty, but to maintain its fresh look it is important to remove fine dust and dirt particles regularly, as well as oil and fat deposits accumulated through repeated handling.
Damage and Repair
Have small rips or tears repaired immediately by your authorised fur care specialist. This will prevent more expensive repairs.
Always hang your fur on a broad-shoulder hanger, never a wire hanger. Allow enough space (no crushing) so that your fur can ‘breathe’.
Never hang your fur in bags of any type. Plastic or rubber-lined bags prevent air from circulating, which can dry out both your fur and its leather backing. Bags (even proper garment bags) are also not recommended, as over time they can cause the hairs to deform and break where the bag rests against the fur.
Do not store your fur in cedar wardrobes. Cedar wood absorbs moisture which keeps both your fur and its leather backing from drying out.
Do not store your fur with moth balls. Furs stored this way decades ago still carry this unpleasant odour. Furthermore, moth balls react with moisture in the air to produce a gas that acts as an insecticide. This chemical reaction can cause irreparable damage to your fur and a lingering odour in your wardrobe.
While storing your fur at home, be sure to protect it from moths. Both your fur care specialist and local drugstore offer a selection of moth protection products.
Avoid getting perfume, hairspray or other chemicals on your fur. The alcohol content in these products will dry out the leather backing and stiffen the guard hairs.
Furs and Moisture
If your fur gets wet shake it out and hang it to dry in a well-ventilated room. Avoid direct heat or radiators, which can damage both the fur and its leather backing. If your fur is soaked through, take it immediately to your authorised fur care specialist for proper treatment.
One of the advantages of fur is that it can usually be easily repaired or remodelled. Your authorised fur care specialist can find matching fur and make any repairs needed.
Additionally, they can help you completely remodel your fur into a fresh, new fashion.
Enjoy wearing your natural and sustainable fur garment!
