It is an honor and an extraordinary privilege to be awarded this prize from the Rat für Formgebung, with an illustrious history stretching back to 1953, and to be in the company of previous honorees such as Jil Sander, Wolfgang Joop, Michael Michalsky, A. Lange & Söhne, Bentley und Leica.

The German Design Award directly contributes to overall commercial success. Prizes are only awarded to projects that truly represent pioneering contributions to the German and international design landscape. Its highly esteemed international jury guarantees this. The German Design Award identifies and presents unique design trends: the competition advances the design-oriented scene.

The German Design Council, the expert for brand and design in Germany, bestows the German Design Award. Commissioned by the highest authority to represent new developments in the German design industry and established as a foundation upon the initiative of the German Bundestag (the lower house of the German Parliament) in 1953, it supports the design industry in all matters that generate added brand value through design. As a result, the German Design Council is one of the world’s leading competence centres for communication and brand management in the field of design. The exclusive network of foundation members includes, in addition to designers and design associations, the owners and brand directors of numerous renowned companies.

The prize was awarded on 9 February 2018 during the Ambiente trade show in Frankfurt am Main.
